Our teacher has left, riding on a white elephant.
We hope that one day he will come back riding on his vows.
The one who passed away was such that he could shake heaven and earth.
His virtue protected and rescued all living beings.
He proclaimed and transformed universally for those in the world.
He was willing to be an ant and a ferry.
Staying by the grave, he became known as Filial Son Bai.
Coming to the West to propagate the Dharma, he was the Monk in the Grave.
With compassion, he exhausted his blood and sweat.
With his joy and renunciation, how could he think to rest?
The Dharma thunder rumbles and the Dharma drum is struck.
Ghosts and spirits wail; the transformations are unusual.
Birth, old age, sickness, and death are but child’s play.
In speech and silence, in movement and stillness, he proclaimed the truth,
Opening the provisional to reveal the actual and ultimate meaning.
Wealth, sex, fame, and profit were the topics of his skillful teaching.
We should always take our kind teacher as a bright mirror
And remember the Six Great Principles.
As the Dharma-wheel constantly turns, he returns to his homeland.
His sun-like wisdom breaks through the darkness; his strength is heroic.
