In the year that the Master landscaped Western Bliss Gardens with pine, papaya, and bamboo trees, a severe typhoon hit Hong Kong and the winds ripped out the newly-planted trees. At that time the Master laid down an ultimatum: “As long as I am in Hong Kong, there will not be any more typhoons. What happens when I leave Hong Kong is another matter, but as long as I am here, no more destructive storms will hit here.”

After that, for more than ten years while the Master remained in Hong Kong, not a single typhoon struck the city. The immunity of the city was dramatically evidenced when on several occasions storms beat a straight course for Hong Kong, only to veer off suddenly from as close as fifteen miles offshore.
